Your anti-bloat wellness mocktail + my solo-date yesterday
Hey friends!
So yesterday I took myself on a little solo date - just me, a good restaurant, and zero guilt about sitting alone at a table for one like the unbothered person I am trying to be!
There is a “European inspired cafe” in my little city and I love to treat myself here. I ordered a Mediterranean platter with a side of grilled chicken and it was genuinely one of the tastiest plates I’ve had in a while - hummus, grape leaves, olives, cucumbers, peppers, all of it.
These are the types of meals I love to focus on when eating out. Protein, healthy fats, veggies, some carbs that taste amazing. This was a huge portion. I ate half, saved the rest, and am having the rest for lunch today. Efficient and delicious.
But the grape leaves got me thinking about something…
When I was a child my grandparents used to take my sister and me to this little Mediterranean restaurant called Grape Leaves - and I can still picture it so clearly. The smell, the warm bread, the way my grandparents would order without even looking at the menu because they already knew exactly what they wanted…
It was the first time I ever tried grape leaves and honestly if I had been left to my own devices as a child I probably would not have touched them. But they ordered them every single time anyway and told me to just try it. And I did and I remember loving them.
I think about that a lot actually - how much of what I eat and love today came from two people who just handed me something and said try it. Grape leaves. Hummus. Olives. Foods that so many kids would push to the side of the plate.
They never made food feel like a big deal. They just made it feel like something worth being curious about.
And I really think that’s where my whole relationship with food started… from my grandparents who loved to eat well and wanted to share that with me.
So shoutout to them - I know they’re reading this :)
Okay now - I want to share this anti-bloat wellness mocktail I have been loving lately!
